Actually, you sound like you've got the same hair and skin as me lol. I think the idea of going to a makeup artist for a consultation is a great idea...but it wouldn't work if you're not near a store that does it. You can get a quick consultation and product recommendation at CoverGirl.com. They have a detailed scale for choosing your skin tone and then they give you numerous makeup looks to choose from. They tell you the entire list of things you'll need, what colors to buy them in, and how to use them. You should probably try CoverGirl and then practice doing your makeup a few times before your formal.

Since you're wearing a halter dress, you may want to go less dramatic with the makeup. My general rule is when you show more skin, you should tone down your makeup so you don't look trashy. For a formal, I say forget the black eyeshadow and lipgloss. You could use one of those long-wearing lipsticks like "ColorStay" and "Covergirl Outlast", but I think they tend to go on brighter than they look and make your lips flaky. I usually go with a creamy lipstick in a slighter darker berry color for nighttime events. If you insist on wearing lipgloss, it should be tinted in a medium-dark berry color: clear gloss will look out-of-place with other makeup. In the way of eyemakeup, mascara is a must (lengthening kind is best for night), and use eyeliner if you're good with it. Try a metallic shadow in a color that blends into your skin well, like gold or bronze. Feel free to use two colors of shadow as long as you blend them into each other across your eyelid; you don't want to look like you have stripes painted on. Use a blush if it's comfortable for you. Personally, I only use lip color, eyeshadow, and mascara, but you should wear what you feel most comfortable in. It doesn't hurt to have an honest friend check out your makeup when you're practicing so you don't get overboard with the makeup!!! Good luck.

well...you can go to ULTA and ask them because they would put it on the best and know what is right for your skin tone and face shape.

They will help you coordinate your dress into the makeup too

I saw Iman on TV recently and she says the best make-up tool ever created for her was the bronzer. Maybe you can like experiment with it before the big day and see if it fits your skin color. Go for the glow, girl!

You can use pink shades over your eyes. Put a light base of light tan eye shadow on your eyelid all the way up to your eyebrow. Next, cover the top down with a pink you like, letting it blend into the tan on your eyelid. Finally, put a touch of white on the outside and blend it in between the pink and tan. Not too much white, just a bit to add some pop.

Use eyeliner on both upper and lower lids to add definition.

How about trying some bolder colors? You could do dramatic smoky eyes-- use a dark gray eyeshadow and black eyeliner. Finish the look off with a thick black mascara. You could also use a subtle red lipstick. A gold-toned eyeshadow might look good, too, with a more neutral lipstick. Check out some great products at palacinka.com

Considereing that you have carmel skin, you could go with a goldish eyeshadow, and brush that over your whole eyelid. Then since your dress is red, you could take a mauve or dark red just above the crease of your eye. That way it makes your eyes stand out. Then us some eyeliner, and blend it in a little with foundation if you use it. Then finish it off with mascara and some goldish pink lipgloss. Good luck!

A red dress is a statement piece, so you want your make-up to compliment it, but not overpower the outfit, and vice versa. It also sounds like you've got some bling on your dress, so I'd steer clear away from silver or glitter make-up.

To reduce the need to re-apply constantly, make the make-up low maintenence, stay matte and simple.

It's a good idea to start cleansing, toning and moisturising morning and night so that by the night of your formal, your skin will be clear and glowing, so you'll need very little make-up anyway!

Smooth a little primer onto your face beforehand, try one from MAC. Then use a cream concealer to cover any redness or acne, blend well, and then mix a little highlighter with a well matched foundation and using a brush, smooth and blend all over your face in soft sweeping motions.

Use a peachy/coral cream blush and blend into the apples of your cheeks for a fresh look, but steer clear away from too much red! On your eyes, go for thick black curled lashes with a good mascara and a smokey eye in the corner using a small amount of well blended grey/brown eyeshadow, blending upwards for a bigger eye look, or sideways for a sleek, feline eye look, whichever you feel can work more for you!

Also, for really big eyes, use a white eyeliner that is sort of creamy, try one from Stila, and line the inner bottom and corner of your eyes to make them appear wider!

Use a lightweight loose powder and roll, dont drag, around your t-zone to stop and shine in photos. You can add more highlighter to cheekbones now if you want more glow, but not if you have v. oily skin.

Finally, use a lip balm on your lips and then apply a nude/light brown lip pencil all over your lip, shading lightly, and fill in with a nude gloss/lipstick. The lip pencil will help the colour to stay longer.

Keep the loose powder, a brush, lip gloss and lip pencil and some cotton buds in your bag for touch ups at the formal, and have fun!

well since you going to have some glitter on your dress, let your make up be matte like dramatic eyes and matte lips with no lip gloss,if eye shadow is dark and dramatic lips should be light and matte noooooooooo gloss and a touch of blush on the cheek and dont forget the mascara

Looking at your aviator, i'm saying you a brown girl.........so i'm selecting colors you can try for your skin tone..... all for the event....

These are the colors you have to use to make you look outstanding......bronzes, copper, spice, gold......use a good foundation/ powder that matches your complextion......line the upper eyelid with black eyeliner.......follow by mascara......and lip gloss...
