Dress for Thanksgiving dance?

We have a Thanksgiving dance coming up at our school (semi-formal) and I'm looking for a dress and a jacket of sweater (it's cold).

I have darker brown hair, dark brown eyes and a fair complexion.

Reds, purples, blues, and greens are good colors, but please no orange, pale yellow, or cream colors! They tend to wash me out.

I'm also not sure what kind of makeup to do.

Advice is appreciated, but any links you could give me would be fantastic!
